The Säntis is the second timepiece of  STREHLER following the Sirna launched in 2023. This evolution of the Sirna is an automatic watch with hours, minutes and a worldtime function with a Cottier system, operated only by the crown.

Made to be functional and easy to use, the Säntis case is 40mm in diamater, made of medical grade stainless steel, for a 9.7mm thichkness including the sapphire glass. The case is similar to the one used for the Sirna and pays homage to Andreas Strehler’s complex Cocon watch case. The fluid lines and the elongated lugs add a distinctly modern touch and beautifully extend the case band. These lugs, gently bending downwards, enhance ergonomics on small wrists and look equally good on more solid ones. The Säntis offers superb comfort on the wrist, making it a great daily wearer. The classic case – case back – bezel construction is water-resistant to 3 atm.

Contrary to the Sirna made only with its titanium blue dial, the Säntis offers a variety of colors represented by numbers. In total, 20 different colors can be chosen for the dial, minute ring and crown insert. These three parts are made out of titanium, the colors are achieved through anodization with the number representing the different voltage used. An unified colors for the three elements can be chosen according to the collector’s taste.

In addition, the hands, minute ring, city disc and 24 hours disc are all with luminous material, C1 BL X1 for the hands and minute ring. Both disc are printed with luminous material by one of our trusted supplier. With the goal to use the watch correctly even when being stuck in a plane during night hours.

As usual, STREHLER focuses on the essentials, an uncompromising manufacturing ethos. Through Andreas Strehler philosophy, his watchmaking expertise and the exquisite craftsmanship applied, the Säntis is designed to be a watch that last – a watch repearable by any good watchmaker in the next generations.

From the design to the movement to the case, dial and hands, everything is produced by our team in the brand’s own workshop. Based in Sirnach, a small town of the canton of Thurgau between lake Constance and the alps, it is one of the very few full-fledged watches manufactured in the German-speaking part of Switzerland.

The STREHLER SA-30W automatic movement

The STREHLER SA-30W is based upon the SA-30 movement already present in our first model, the Sirna. That movement has been tested and is a reliable automatic caliber, designed entirely by Andreas Strehler and manufactured in our workshop.

The aim of the development was to create an additionnal module that sit on top of our robust and easy to maintain movement. A thin, but not ultra-thin (and thus oversensitive) automatic movement. No generic components are used, some components are shared between the SA-30 and the SA-30W, which also simplifies the work for our mechanics and watchmakers in the workshop. There are no shortcuts, as is evidenced by the different layer of depth, contrast in finishing and angles on the bridges. With a height of only 5.05 mm and a diameter of 30 mm (13 ¼ ”’), the SA-30W has a power reserve of 60 hours at a frequency of 21,600 A/h (3 Hz). The escapement is a swiss lever special to STREHLER with a free-sprung hairspring and an adjustable-mass balance.

The worldtime module has also been developped entierely by Andreas Strehler and adds 41 more components to the SA-30 found in the Sirna.

All components of the movement are finely decorated according to Swiss watchmaking tradition using circular Geneva stripes, perlages and bevelled and polished edges.

The open shape of the oscillating weight made from solid 18 K yellow gold allows a panoramic view of the caliber as well as delicate attention to its polished bevels.

The curved polished steel hands are made from scratch and polished in the workshop, machined already bent with pockets at the back of the hands to be filled with luminous material.

The crown with the typical butterfly logo refers to watchmaker Andreas Strehler as the originator and designer of the STREHLER timepieces. This floral crown is also made in house, the butterfly logo is engraved on a titanium insert then fitted into the steel crown.

The dial

The center dial and minutes ring are made out of titanium and anodized, giving a different hue depending on the voltage used. The three-dimensional pattern of the center parts of the dial have been derived from the design of Eric Giroud made for the Sirna's dial. The twisted pattern brings a vivid element to the dial. The anodization process change the material's color itself, with a metallic and vibrant feel. Photos and videos can not represent the real life experience of seeing the dial elements, l we recommend to see it in the metal to grasp all its complexity.

Crafted from a titanium sheet, the dials and minute rings are first machined before being cut out of the plate with an erosion machine. Afterwards, the center parts goes to laser engraving. Once the pattern has been engraved (around15 hours of laser engraving), the dials are sandblasted and the top of the pattern is polished by hand. The minute ring is finished with circular graining. Once both parts are ready, they are anodized together with a matching crown insert.

To complete the dial, the brass disc for the cities and 24h are machined and also finished with circular graining. Both are then treated with ruthenium anthracite, the 24h ring is also treated with a darker galvanic treatment on half of its surface. After that delicate operation, both disc are printed with a luminous mix.

Each dial requires several hours of meticulous work to be produced to get the final results we are aiming for.
